Friday, Oct. 1 - 

This past Monday, eleven FFA members competed in the District 1 Soils Contest. Both of our teams placed 2nd out this 7 county wide event. Three scores count for a team score. In the Urban Soils Contest, soils used for development, Carson Bennett placed 2nd, Kelsey Bennet placed 3rd, and Olivia Miller placed 8th. In the Rural Soils Contest, soils used for crop production, Mina Wesche was 7th, Sophie Sterken was 8th, and Ella Richer was 12th. Both teams qualified for state.

Morning Activity period will be for class meetings.  Juniors, please bring your chromebooks to the class meeting today. Student Council members should come to the theater during whenever class meeting business is wrapped up. There are things to go over for the upcoming blood drive.

The journalism staff just released the first issue of the Pet Echoes yesterday. Be sure to check your email to find the newspaper. Be ready and make sure you read it carefully in case Griffin asks you questions for fun prizes!

October 6th is coming up, it's not too late to sign up for donating blood. During the month of October, donors will receive a free $5 gift card from a list of merchants to choose from. Be sure to give your email address when filling out registration so you can receive the link after donating. For those who have signed up, your iron levels must be high enough to allow you to donate. Remember to be eating a variety of iron-rich foods over the next week and drink extra water each day.

The JH golf team won the jamboree at Eagle Rock Golf Club with a score of 192.  Jack Leppelmeier 35 – Medalist; Creighton Aeschliman 44; Aiden Crawford 56; Gavin Knierim 57.

The varsity golf team finished 7th at the OHSAA Sectional. Blayn Meck 89; Caden Bishop 91; Sam Myers 98; Tobin King 102.

The varsity soccer team defeated Swanton 9-2. Zakkai Kaufmann had 4 goals, Carlos Bowers with 2, Quinn Wyse, Hayden Jones and Augustine Vallejo each with 1. The JV team won 2-0 with goals from Pete Rupp and Mason Wyse.

Congratulations to Paris Coopshaw for reaching her 1000 career dig mark in the match last night vs. North Central. The varsity volleyball team lost to NC in 3 sets: 9-25, 11-25, and 20-25.  The JV team won in 2 sets: 25-22 and 25-21. The 8th grade won in 2 sets: 25-12 and 25-20. The 7th grade lost in 3 sets: 27-25, 17-25, and 23-25.

The Pumpkinfest, sponsored by Pettisville FFA Alumni and Friends group, is Friday, Oct. 1. 4th-7th graders can sign up for the 3 on 3 basketball contest using the sign-up sheets located in the office, or online, or in Mr. Poulson’s room.  4th-12th graders can sign up for the 6 on 6 dodgeball tournament using the same sign-up sheets located in the office, or online, or in Mr. Poulson’s room. Dodgeball is co-ed teams with no more than 4 boys on a team. There are no substitutes. The cost is $5/person. The prizes are t-shirts. Sign up and pay by 3:15 on Wednesday, Sept. 29.

*The varsity soccer team defeated Northwood 15 to 0.  Goals – Zakkai Kaufmann 3, Hayden Jones 2, Harley Crossgrove, Bryce Beltz, Augustine Vallejo, Angie Rosillo, Quinn Wyse, Cayden Jacoby, Jaret Beck, Joey Ripke, Griffin Eash, and Zach Morris all with 1 goal.

*The varsity, JV, 8th grade, and 7th grade volleyball teams swept Holgate last night. Varsity won 25-14, 23-25, 25-22, and 25-14. JV 27-25 and 25-13. 8th grade 25-18, 24-26, 25-17. 7th grade 24-26, 25-13, 25-15.

Girls Golf Sectionals at Ironwood:  Mina Wesche finished tied for 37th and Lily Wiemken finished 43rd.  The junior high golf team won the BBC Jamboree at Patriot Hills with a score of 191.  Jack Leppelmeier – 37 Medalist; Creighton Aeschliman 50; Aiden Crawford 50; Gavin Knierim 54; Caleb Lako 62; Kaleb Wyse 64.

*The varsity golf team finished in 3rd place at the BBC tournament and finished overall in a tie for third place in the final standings. The Blackbirds had three golfers earn all-conference honors: Sam Myers – 1st Team BBC; Caden Bishop – 2nd Team BBC; Blayn Meck – Honorable-Mention BBC.

The varsity soccer team lost to Ottawa Hills 7 to 0. The junior high soccer team lost to Emmanuel Christian 3 to 2.  Quinn Ripke and Jake Wonderly each scored one goal.

There will be a meeting today during lunch for all girls in grades 9-12 interested in playing basketball this year. The meeting will take place in study hall. 

Sporting results from Saturday: 

*The varsity soccer team picked up the win over visiting Liberty Center 4 to 0. Zakkai Kaufmann scored 3 times and Carlos Bowers once.  Quinn Wyse and Zakkai each had an assist.

*The girls’ varsity cross country team finished 5th at Liberty Center.  Top finishers for the varsity girls include: Grace Remington 11th, Kendall Sears 13th.  Varsity boys:  Jayden Bleikamp 33rd, Caden Bishop 51st.  Junior high girls:  Leah Roth 71st. Junior high boys:  Jack Leppemeier 2nd and Gavin Knierim 11th

*Tri-match volleyball results - Varsity volleyball team lost to Liberty Center and Edgerton in 3 sets. The JV team won over Liberty Center in 2 sets and lost to Edgerton in 2 sets
