Your Rights Matter 6 - Local Control

The November 2025 elections were very successful in Fulton County and statewide. The majority of our community members voted in support of property taxes, which will positively impact services such as local fire, police, libraries, roads, schools, townships, cities, villages, and more. The recent levy success and changes to proposed legislation are trending in a positive direction, yet some legislators still do not care about the pride rural Ohio communities have in their communities. For example, Representative Dave Thomas posted this Facebook video chastising voters after overwhelming support for local property taxes.

In his video post, he said:

The legislature has taken action and helped on the unvoted increase side of the property tax bill, but when it comes to the voted side, what we saw this November was actual increases, and we the taxpayer - we the voter - have done that to ourselves. There's a clear disconnect between the tax burden that we’re having in the crisis, and what the voters have essentially just done, which was to make that crisis even worse.

Yes, Representative Thomas, there is a clear disconnect. However, the disconnect is that some elected officials do not believe local voters can make the best decisions for their own communities.
