Cinco De Mayo Program

Saludos from the Pettisville Spanish Club!

Our decades-long tradition of student international travel continues with a scheduled 2025 Costa Rica trip! As many remember, our fundraising has historically centered around food! We have made tens of thousands of enchiladas, pizzas, and enchilada casseroles over the years and this gracious community has supported us in each endeavor! You might have even been a previous traveler or have helped make a trip possible by purchasing enchiladas or layering cheese onto a pizza!

This year, we are branching out to include the community in our yearly Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 10 at 6:30 PM, with a show starting at 7:30 PM. You are invited to participate in our dinner theater experience, catered by our travelers and their parents. Yes, there will be guacamole! The dinner will include Spanish rice, beans, main dish, lettuce, salsa, guacamole, and dessert.

Our show is written and performed by students currently enrolled in Spanish classes, not all of whom are planning to travel; however, all Spanish students benefit from the fundraiser in some way. Your dinner ticket is good for the dinner and the show with priority seating.

Here’s how it works: There are 12 total tables available for dinner. RSVP with payment (non-refundable unless your reservation comes in when we have already filled the available spaces) in advance.

Option 1: purchase an entire table for $450 and RSVP for the number of plates (up to 8 per table).

Option 2: reserve by the plate at $60 each and sit with whomever we place you.

Option 3: sponsor a table for $450 and donate back to fill the table with community members, students, and parents. With this gracious option, you would put the tickets back in our hands for us to fill the tables.

The dinner is limited to 12 tables, so please act quickly!

Additional donations are accepted and appreciated, cash or check (made to Pettisville Schools attention Spanish Club). Ways to donate include:

Donation Option 1: Donate any amount directly to the Spanish Club, Pettisville Schools

Donation Option 2: Attend show (7:30 PM), suggested donation $6/person

Donation Option 3: Donate to a specific student traveler’s account by contacting the individual and using their direct donation link on their traveler account site. This payment would be made directly to the student’s trip and would not be filtered through the school at all. You would make a payment online with 100% of your donation going to that student’s account. (This is unlike a fundraiser site such as a gofundme page where a portion is taken out for the fundraiser site.)

Proceeds support student travelers and costs involved in the trip, such as first aid kits, snacks, or unforeseeable costs while traveling. Additionally, some funds help run our Cinco de Mayo show, Spanish Club activities, and elementary collaborations such as tropical fruit tasting, crafts, or other elementary activities that help build our Spanish program and build interest in future travel adventures.

Thank you for your support of student travel! We at Pettisville place great importance on experiential learning. Student international travel is backed by research in the educational field and increases student learning of all kinds, not just through learning a World Language, but through science, math, history, communications, music and the arts, and physical education. So much more is learned through travel than what we can describe here, and we hope you will help us continue to offer this life-changing experience.
