OPEN ENROLLMENT Q & A

What does open enrollment cost?

There is no open enrollment cost. A student from any Ohio district can attend Pettisville tuition free if accepted. Like any in-district student, they are required to pay book fees and other costs related to an education, but there are no tuition fees.

What about transportation?

Parents are required to provide transportation. However, Pettisville currently offers shuttle bus service with pick-ups and drop-offs in Napoleon (on the north side near the old Holiday Inn), Wauseon (at Homecoming Park) and Archbold (Memorial Park near the tennis courts).

How many open enrollment students attend Pettisville?

2019-20 set a new record for the most OE students with 264 students choosing to attend Pettisville Schools.

What districts are represented among Pettisville OE students?

In 2020-21, students from eleven Ohio school districts attend Pettisville; the largest number of students come from Wauseon, Archbold, Napoleon, and Stryker.

What does it mean to be an open enrollment student at Pettisville?

It simply means that the OE student is a Blackbird and is treated like every other student, and becomes a member of the Pettisville Schools Family.

What Percent of Pettisville Students are Open Enrollment Students?

Pettisville traditionally ranks in the top ten in the state of Ohio as a school of choice.

In 2020-21, 48% or nearly five out of ten attend Pettisville through OE.

How many Pettisville students leave to attend elsewhere?

In 2020-21, 50 Pettisville residents attended other districts. The unique aspect of the number 50 “outgoing students” is that probably less than 10% of those students have ever attended Pettisville. In many cases, a family lived in Wauseon, moved to the Pettisville District, and their children continued to attend Wauseon.  In prior years, the number of outgoing students was 51 (2018-19) and 47 (2019-20).

What does open enrollment mean to Pettisville?

OE is very beneficial for Pettisville Schools. We have always been a small district—usually one of the 20 smallest districts in the state of Ohio. OE students have allowed us to maintain double sections, while keeping small class sizes, and has allowed us to fund our educational program without seeking additional funds from our community. The last time additional funds were requested and approved was in 2003 making this 18 year period the longest in district history between operating levies.

What is the history of open enrollment at Pettisville?

In the fall of 1993, 46 OE students chose to attend Pettisville through the provisions of the new law. Over the years, our growth has consistently increased both in numbers and in the percentage of the total student body, starting at 9% open enrollment, increasing to 48% in 2020-21.
