What does open enrollment cost?
Nothing. A student from any Ohio district can attend Pettisville tuition free if accepted. They will be required to pay book fees and other costs normally related to an education, but there are no tuition fees or other payments.
What about transportation?
Parents are required to provide transportation. However, Pettisville currently offers shuttle bus service with pick-ups and drop-offs in Napoleon (on the north side near the old Holiday Inn), Wauseon (at Homecoming Park) and at Archbold (Memorial Park near the tennis courts).
How many open enrollment students attend Pettisville?
2016-17 based on preliminary numbers set a new record for the most students to attend Pettisville. 233 students chose to attend Pettisville.
What districts are represented among Pettisville OE students?
In 2016-17, students from eleven Ohio school districts attended Pettisville; the largest number came from Wauseon (111), Archbold (66), Napoleon (25), and Stryker (14).
What does it mean to be an open enrollment student at Pettisville?
It simply means that the OE student is a Blackbird and is treated like every other student, and becomes a member of the “Pettisville School Family.”

How many Pettisville students leave to attend elsewhere?
In 2016-17, 35 Pettisville residents attended four other districts with the vast majority (23) attending Wauseon. The unique aspect of the number 35 “outgoing students” is that probably less than 5 of that number have ever attended Pettisville. In many cases a family lived in Wauseon, moved to the Pettisville District, and their children continued to attend Wauseon. In prior years, the number of outgoing students was 44 (2014-15) and 47 (2015-16).
What does open enrollment mean to Pettisville?
OE is very beneficial for Pettisville Schools. We have always been a small district—usually one of the 20 smallest districts in the state of Ohio.
With lowered birth rates, our student resident population has not kept pace. OE students have allowed us to maintain double sections and, while keeping generally small class sizes, and has allowed us to fund our educational program without seeking additional funds from our community. The last time additional funds were requested and approved was in 2003 making this 14 year period the longest in district history between operating levies.
Based on current 2016-17 numbers, the kindergarten class of 42 has 24 open enrollment students enrolled.
What is the history of open enrollment at Pettisville? IIn the fall of 1993, forty-six new students chose to attend Pettisville through the provisions of the new law. Over the years the growth has been relatively consistent both in numbers and in the percentage of the total student body. The following graph is an overview of open enrollment history at Pettisville.
